Memories of Lindsey
Was cleaning up my hard drive this afternoon and found this tribute to the goof in the family....
Lindsey was born a chubby, happy baby. She slept for most of the day during the first few weeks after coming home from the hospital and was very easy to take care of. It wasn’t long, however, until we began to see her goofy personality emerge. She loved to eat, play with her food and entertain anyone who was in the room with her! When she learned to crawl, we called her the elephant because she carried her bottle around with her in her mouth wherever she went. Even if it was empty! She loved to play ”kissy” games with her Grandpa and often would sit on the couch and blow kisses to herself or her Mommy across the room for hours. Not long after she learned to walk, she decided that her favorite pair of shoes were her sisters old pink snow boots. The only problem with that is that it was summer! She would insist that she wear them no matter where we were going in her shorts, tank tops and snow boots! One time I remember looking down one afternoon and finding that she had worn them on the wrong feet for the entire day! Her other favorite belonging was her “biddy” which was her term for her blanket. The very same blanket is still a proud fixture in her bedroom today! When she entered kindergarten we bribed her into going to school by cutting pieces of the ruffle off of her blanket and pinning them in her pants pockets! Whenever Lindsey received a new toy, she would tuck it into her covers at night and sleep with it like it was a stuffed animal. I think some of my fondest memories are when she decided to start imitating Jim Carey after seeing him in Ace Ventura Pet Detective. She walked around the house for days saying random lines from the movie, like "Do NOT go in there..." when she passed the bathroom, which of course, made us all laugh! When Lindsey was in trouble for misbehaving, we would take away her toys as punishment. She never complained because within a few hours, she would have made several “new” toys to entertain herself with for as long as it took until she earned her real toys back. Lindsey was my creative, happy, friendly, easy-going, sneaky, silly, goofy kid. The best part is that she is still every one of those things today and I’m so proud to be her Mom!
