After thinking long, and hard, about the Occupational Therapist situation, I think i've decided what I want to do with my life. Atleast for now. On Friday I spent the day in an Orthopaedic surgeon office and although my part of the job sucked, there was one part that REALLY interested me! I learned what a Medical Assistant does and researched it, and I think that would be the perfect job for me. Or atleast a good start! Pierce offers a technical degree program called "Medical Office Assistant" and the requirement for a career is only a two year program, of course, with more schooling comes more pay and a BETTER career, but it would be a start and I could do schooling WHILE working as a MA.
The job overview is "Medical assistants who perform administrative tasks have many duties. They update and file patients’ medical records, fill out insurance forms, and arrange for hospital admissions and laboratory services. They also perform tasks less specific to medical settings, such as answering telephones, greeting patients, handling correspondence, scheduling appointments, and handling billing and bookkeeping."
This interests me because I would be working with ONE doctor and still working in an office setting(which I really like)and ocasionally with patients. I've already taken some of the classes required for this degreee so I have a start! The classes for it are some business but also a lot of medical and NO MATH!! Woo hoo! I'm SO excited I just had to share it with you all!
-Love!!

Ashley...I'm so glad to see you thinking your way through this. Your compassionate nature makes for a good relationship with patients and co-workers, and your office experience will keep the other tasks interesting.
To some degree, it is the same type of job I did for Dr. Lordahl, and found very satisfying most of the time.
You also have a wonderful gift for communicating in writing. Make sure you use and develop that aspect. It will soon be a lost art, what with text messaging!
We love you.
